QDesign pic 2What is Google’s Organic Search? Organic search on Google is the nonpaid advertisement (free advertising) section of Google’s search engine.   The higher you are ranked on the organic search the more likely folks will click the link to your website.  Again, did I mention it is FREE advertising!  Now that is what I am talking about.

Why focus on Google?  Google’s Market Share as of February 2013 is 67%.  To give you an example, a computer repair guy from Baltimore, MD, has been out the computer repair business for over 2 years.  He stills get hits on his website and sends his friends the referrals.  When reviewing his analytics page in a years’ time frame, Google Organic search sent him 18,475 visits compared to Yahoo (the second market leader of 20%) organic search of 321. Only 321, are you kidding me?  And Yahoo wonder’s why they only hold only 20% of the market share. Even myself, I have been way more successful with Google sending me traffic then Yahoo and Bing combined.

The Top 10 Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Strategies:

1)     Sign up for Google Services:

  • Set up Google Analytics – Google Analytics will allow you to know what type of devices, locations, and type of browsers your visitors are using to get to your site and how they are using your website.
  • Set up Google webmaster tools – Google webmaster tools will tell you which keywords are prominent on your website, how fast Google thinks your webpage loads, and Google tells you the errors it sees and that it does not like.
  • Sign up for Google Local Business Center –  In order to get your business added free to Google local businesses.  Assume you a small candle shop in the Atlanta, GA area.  A potential customer searches for candles and lives in the Atlanta area.  Google assumes the potential customer is looking for candles in his/her local area and will give your website a higher page rank locally.

2)      Your web content:

  • Simple Organic Keywords.  Potential customers are looking for answers to their questions.  The higher quality the content on your website, the higher your page rank will be on Google.  Google provides a service to their customers to return the best search results.  The more you say with organic search keywords the more likely you will appear higher on Google page rank.  Remember to write your content where an 8th grade can understand it.  Stay away from slang or fancy words to spruce up your page.  For example, if I was looking for vegetables to purchase online, I would most likely type vegetables for sale online not veggies for sale online.  You can use google adwords to see how many people are searching for the keyword vegetables for sale online compared to veggies for sale online.  Type in “Google adwords” in Google search to locate how to sign up and login for google adwords
  • Make your Headings count.  Google gives importance to headings.  Make sure your headings are descriptive. For example, if you are talking about your computer repair services in Atlanta, GA.  In Bold, Type “Computer Repair Services offered in Atlanta, GA” instead of just saying “Computers”, “Computer Repairs”, or “What Services I offer.”
  • The more content the better.  The more quality content the better.  Do not write to be writing or rambling on.  Know your audience.  Stick to the point and keep your audience engaged.  You may want to read up or watch some you tube videos on how to keep your audience engaged.  If you are still reading this blog, I must be doing something right to keep you engaged.

3)      Write a Blog to bring in a large amount of traffic to your website.  Again the more content the better.  The more blogs (write one every day or two) and the variety of topics that deal with your business, the more likely you will get the right potential customers to your website.  Very Important Step.  Can not stress this enough!

4)      XML Sitemap.  It is map of you website so Google’s robots knows what is important on your website and where to go.   These robots / spiders go out and index the entire web.  They follow algorithm to figure out what your website has which is not efficient.  By having the sitemap, Google can understand what the different parts of your website are.  You can submit your XML Sitemap to Google via Google Webmaster tools.

5)      Backlinks. Links to your site from other websites.  For example, if you write a blog and another website sets a link back to your website that is called a backlink.

  • Google looks for one way backlinks to your website.  Meaning that Google looks for a backlink going to your website but you are not connecting back to that same website.  Why?  Because in the past, folks tried to cheat the system by going to websites either paying for or getting for free backlinks set to their website as long as they create a backlink back to the other website.  Google got smart and now only looks at one way backlinks.
  • Google weighs more points to backlinks from higher page rank websites who uses backlinks to your website.  The more backlinks from higher ranking prominent websites the better.  You can download Google toolbar to your internet browser with page rank icon that shows you the Google page rank of each website you visit.
  • Use Social Media for backlinks.  Having backlinks from Facebook, Twitter helps you out!

6)      Load Time.  The faster your webpage loads the more points you will get with Google ranking.  Check out your Google Webmaster tools.

7)      Title Tags on your Webpages.  You heard about SEO friendly webpages.  Here is why?  That title helps you with Google Search Engine Optimization by telling Google what your webpage is about.  When you create your website, make sure your title says something about your website.  For example, if I was a web designer in Pittsburg, PA, you may want to put QDesigns is the Best Web Design Company in the Pittsburgh area.  Google gives a lot of points for your title.  Make sure your title is relevant to what is on your webpages.

8)      Links to other websites.  When you put links on your website to another website, make sure the keywords is relevant to the website you are linking back to.  For example, if you create a link on the word computer repairs.  Make sure the website you are linking back to is relevant to computer repairs.  You would not to click on the link and find out you are now on the flower shop website.

9)      Permalinks.  Make sure when you name your webpages and that the name of your webpages are what Google will finds relevant.  New web programmers may forgot about this step and the permalink for the webpage may be called page 1, page 2, and so on.  For example on my website.  http://www.Qdesignsrus.com.  My About Us page is called About Us.  So if you would type http://www.Qdesignsrus.com/About-Us/ you will be directed to my “About Us” page.  Google understands what About Us means and will know this webpage is about QDesignsrus website.  So if I was looking for information about QDesignsrus website, Google would more in likely return the later link back to me.

10)   Check out Google on Youtube.  Google has an entire channel about Google Search Engines.  This is from Google’s mouth themselves on how to be successful on Google Search Optimization.  The more videos you watch the more you will know how to master Search Engine Optimization on Google.  Google wants you to be successful because the more quality search results they give their customers the more Google will dominate the internet search market.
